UDI 2010-035V1 Overview of embassies that assist the Directorate of Immigration in DNA testing
The UDI can decide to offer DNA testing to applicants of all nationalities when it believes that there is doubt about a stated family relationship. The offer is limited, however, to groups of applicants who submit applications via a Norwegian foreign service mission that is capable of carrying out DNA testing.
At present, DNA tests are offered via the Norwegian embassies in:
- Addis Ababa
- Nairobi
- Dar es Salaam
- Kampala
- Abuja
- Accra
- Islamabad
- Damascus
- Amman
- Tehran
- Riyadh
- Khartoum
The UDI regularly considers whether it is necessary to include more embassies in the scheme. Any expansion of the offer of DNA testing must take place in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the embassies concerned. If up to ten DNA tests are required, the UDI can contact embassies that are not on the list to ask whether they can conduct DNA tests in individual cases. If more than ten DNA tests are required per year, this must first be clarified with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
